This issue essentially was skipped as the date of the issue was moved up one month to October.  The following was printed in the Member Billboard by Don Elman in the October Issue, Page 10.

What's in a Cover Date?

(Or, Did I Sleep Through September?)

If you pay attention to details (and we think most computer lovers do), you may have noticed that although the last monthly issue of Call-A.P.P.L.E. (Volume 8, Number 8) was dated August, 1985, the current issue (Volume 8, Number 9) is dated October.  Naturally, you may be curious as to what is going on here.  Have you been Rip Van Winkle for the last 30 days?  Has our proofreading system fallen apart?  Have we published a "phantom issue"?

The Correct answer is: NONE OF THE ABOVE.  What you are holding is in fact, the issue we had always planned to publish in September, 1985.  It was, indeed, printed and mailed on schedule -- at the beginning of September -- and its volume/issue number follows in at the normal sequence from the last issue.  However, starting with this issue, we have shifted the cover date ahead one month.

The reason is that we are expanding the Call -A.P.P.L.E'S single-copy distribution to various retail outlets across the country, and this one-time shift brings our publication schedule and date in line with other magazines sold on the newsstand.  For example, the nest issue (Volume 8, Number 10) will be mailed in early October and labeled "November 1985".

The Important Point is that members/subscribers will receive a full 12 monthly issues each year, and your expiration date still refers to the last actual month during which an issue will be mailed to you before renewal.
